Features

32.5MP Full-Frame Sensor and DIGIC X Processor

The R6 V is built around a newly developed 32.5MP full-frame CMOS sensor paired with Canon’s DIGIC X processor to deliver outstanding image quality, speed, and low-light performance. The high-resolution sensor supports internal 7K RAW recording and oversampled 4K video capture with enhanced detail and accurate color reproduction. A native ISO range of 100–64,000, expandable to 50–102,400, allows the camera to perform confidently in a wide range of lighting conditions while maintaining more than 15 stops of dynamic range in Canon Log 2.

Professional 7K RAW Video Recording

Designed for demanding production workflows, the R6 V supports multiple recording formats and frame rates for maximum flexibility during editing and post-production. Internal 7K30 open gate RAW and 7K60 RAW Light recording provide rich 12-bit color depth and exceptional detail for advanced grading and reframing applications. The dedicated color mode button offers instant access to Canon Log 2, Canon Log 3, HLG, PQ, Canon 709, BT.709, and several customizable picture profiles for streamlined operation on set.

The camera supports open gate RAW recording at 6960 x 4640 up to 29.97 fps, while DCI RAW Light recording at 6960 x 3672 is available up to 59.94 fps. Oversampled DCI 4K and UHD 4K recording can be captured up to 59.94 fps for enhanced detail, while standard DCI 4K and UHD 4K recording support frame rates up to 120 fps. Full HD recording reaches up to 180 fps with a slight 1.13x crop for dramatic slow-motion playback. Recording options include 12-bit RAW, 10-bit XF-HEVC/H.265, and XF-AVC/H.264 formats for a variety of professional workflows.

Hybrid Photo and Video Performance

Built for creators who require both still photography and advanced video tools, the R6 V combines high-end video functionality with impressive photographic performance. Drawing technology from the Canon EOS R6 Mark III, the camera supports continuous shooting speeds of up to 40 fps using the electronic shutter. A Pre-Continuous Shooting mode can also record up to 20 frames before the shutter button is fully pressed, helping capture fast-moving subjects more effectively.

Dual Pixel CMOS AF II

Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF II system delivers fast, accurate, and highly responsive autofocus performance for both stills and video capture. The intelligent phase-detection system is capable of recognizing and tracking people, animals, and vehicles while maintaining consistent focus during movement. Register People Priority allows users to prioritize selected individuals in crowded scenes for more reliable subject tracking. Autofocus operation includes One-Shot AF, AI Focus, Servo AF, and Movie Servo AF modes for different shooting situations. Additional focusing tools include Eye Detection AF, Touch AF, focus peaking, and customizable manual focus assist settings. Movie Servo AF also enables cinematic focus transitions with adjustable speed, sensitivity, and subject priority controls.

Coordinated Image Stabilization

The R6 V combines in-body image stabilization with compatible RF and RF-S lens stabilization systems to provide up to 7.5 stops of shake correction at the image center. Movie Digital IS further enhances handheld video recording with five-axis digital stabilization for smoother footage in demanding shooting environments.

Video-Focused Body Design

Purpose-built for modern content creation and filmmaking, the R6 V features a compact and highly functional body optimized for video production workflows. An integrated active cooling system improves thermal performance during extended recording sessions, while the vari-angle LCD and dedicated controls simplify operation for both horizontal and vertical shooting orientations. The active cooling system enables extended recording times of more than two hours in 7K RAW Lite mode. A 3-inch 1.62m-dot vari-angle LCD provides flexible framing from multiple shooting angles, while the built-in power zoom lever allows smooth zoom operation directly from the camera body. Additional production-focused features include a dedicated color profile button, an integrated tally lamp for recording indication, and multiple 1/4”-20 mounting points for flexible rigging configurations.

Connectivity and Workflow Integration

The R6 V offers extensive connectivity options for professional production workflows, including dual card slots, USB-C connectivity, and full-size HDMI output for external recording and monitoring applications. The CFexpress Type B card slot supports high-capacity cards up to 8TB for demanding high-bitrate recording, while the SDXC UHS-II slot can be used for backup recording, proxy workflows, or overflow storage. A full-size HDMI port enables stable external recording and monitoring connections, including support for external 7K ProRes RAW recording with compatible Atomos Ninja monitor/recorders. The USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 interface supports power delivery, 10 Gb/s data transfer speeds, and direct streaming via UVC/UAC. Additional connectivity includes dedicated 3.5mm microphone and headphone ports, along with built-in Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.1 for wireless control and file transfer.

Professional Optical Design

The lens is specifically engineered for video production with tightly controlled focus breathing for smoother cinematic focus transitions. A fluorine coating protects the front element against dust, moisture, and smudges, while the weather-resistant body and internal zoom design improve durability and operational balance. Optical construction includes three aspherical elements and three UD elements to maintain sharpness, clarity, and reduced distortion across the entire zoom range.

Integrated Power Zoom System

The built-in rocker-style power zoom mechanism is driven by dual Nano USM motors for smooth and precise zoom transitions. Zoom behavior can be customized directly through the camera menu with separate settings for standby and recording speeds. Thanks to the internal zoom design, balance shifts are minimized during zooming, making the lens especially suitable for handheld shooting and gimbal use. For expanded remote operation, the optional BR-E2 Bluetooth remote allows wireless zoom control during video production.
